Why Digestive Supplements for Dogs Are Helpful

We all aspire to be proactive pet parents, especially when it comes to our furry companion’s health and well-being. One of the most important topics to be proactive about is your pup’s digestive health. What dogs eat and how they digest that food affects how well or unwell they feel. Consider the digestive system the main hub of your pup’s body. If one part of the system isn’t functioning perfectly, that can affect how they act or their quality of life. That’s why keeping an eye on their gut health, nutrient absorption, and potential digestive issues is so important! Here are the reasons why a digestive aid for dogs can be helpful.

Some Breeds Are Prone to Food Allergies

A lot of us humans have food allergies or sensitivities. If you have one of these issues, you know how sick and miserable it can make you feel if you eat that food! Dogs aren’t too different from us in that regard. There are some breeds that are known to develop food allergies more often than others.

For instance, German Shepherds may experience issues with several foods, from beef to chicken and soy to dairy. German Shepherds and Boxers both have common allergies to wheat. Golden Labradors can be allergic to fish, eggs, soy, and more. Even Paw’s own Marlie is a French Bulldog who happens to be very sensitive to many foods.

If your dog is a breed that’s prone to food allergies but doesn’t currently have any issues, that’s not to say that issues couldn’t arise in the future. Just like us, canines can develop more health issues as they age. By providing a dog digestive aid for them - before they have any issues - they can live a healthier, happier life.

A Healthy Dog is One with a Healthy Gut!

Similar to humans, probiotics for dogs may be beneficial to maintaining the perfect balance of “good” bacteria in the digestive tract. A natural digestive aid for dogs will often contain a blend of probiotics and prebiotics to keep your canine healthily balanced. Think of it as a proactive way to keep things running smoothly internally.

In normal circumstances, dogs who are in good health have balanced microflora. But different things can cause an imbalance - maybe if they’re anxious, sick, or not getting the proper nutrients. Providing probiotic support for dogs is useful so that if something comes up, for example if they become more stressed than normal, their body will hopefully still maintain that intestinal balance.

Digestive Enzymes Can Strengthen the Immune System

While digestive support is necessary for maintaining your dog’s overall health, immune support should also be a significant focus. A digestive supplement for dogs typically contains a blend of digestive enzymes that helps strengthen the immune system. In order to fight off harmful bacteria, parasites, and more, your four-legged friend really needs their immune system to operate optimally.

Start Them Young to be Proactive

As long as your puppy is over 12 weeks of age, they should be old enough to benefit from digestive support for dogs. When they’re young, they’re also more impressionable about new things! By starting them young on a dog digestive supplement, you can take a proactive approach to their digestive health. Especially if they’re a breed that is prone to digestive issues (as mentioned above), you can work to prevent issues from occurring. The hope is that as pet parents, caring for your pup proactively is easier than having to quickly react to combat an issue that they’re having.
