Police Dog Fired For Being Too Friendly Gets Better Job

Sometimes you're just not the right person or even dog for the job. That was the case for a cute German Shepherd puppy named Gavel.

Gavel was training to be a special police dog with the Queensland police in Australia. However, six weeks into training, he was deemed much too friendly to become a member of the police force.

The sweet German Shepherd puppy often enjoyed meeting strangers and getting belly rubs from them. According to the BBC , the police in Australia felt the dog "did not display the necessary aptitude for a life on the front line."

Luckily, while undergoing the training to become a police dog, Gavel was being fostered at the governor of Queensland's home. So, the governor gave his friendly four-legged pal a new job better suited for the pup.

Governor Paul de Jersey awarded Gavel the title of "Vice-Regal Dog," where his duties include welcoming visitors and tour groups to the Queensland's Government House.

The governor loves giving social media updates on Gavel and from the looks of it, the dog has really found his place in life!
